Dole Fruit Containers

I was in the grocery store the other day and I saw these new Dole fruit containers. They are such a freshing approach to the old tin can. First of all, they look great. The clear plastic shows off the natural beauty of the fruit and reinforces Dole's confidence in their fruit's quality. Secondly, they are much more user friendly than cans because you can use what you need, put the lid back on and stick the whole thing in your fridge. Thirdly the plastic containers are recyclable, like cans, but also reusable.

This is good marketing on Dole's part. It caught my attention, make me buy more than I needed and gave me a great user experience that will make me a return customer. Good job guys.

A fresh and healthy new look. This packaging change has totaly redefined a product bringing it out of the bomb shelter and into the fridge. Great idea.

I imagine you don't want to hear from me again, but I figure you should http://www.bestlifeonline.com/cms/publish/travel-leisure/Our_oceans_are_turning_into_plastic_are_we.shtml" REL="nofollow">know... (Cans are plastic-lined, btw.)

Hi. I´m doing research on this kind of products in Latin America for a Dutch company. But it seems that this products don´t get much attention by the customers because of the high price. It may look nice but canned fruit is much cheaper. Plus not every company in Latin America is willing to make such an inversion.

Like I said in the original post, I think it was the looks of this packaging that caught my attention in the first place, and probably helped justify the extra expense in my mind, but ultimately it was the user experience that made me buy them again. The convinence of being able to use a little bit and then just stick the whole think in the fridge is huge. It made me instantly annoyed that I ever had to put something from a can into a fridge friendly container. I think there are some evolutions of a product that make people realize how silly or inconvenient the previous generation of the product was.

Another related example is the peel of tin can lids. They have become pretty standard now even though they cost more for the companies to produce. In my opinion, this is because the users demand it. Every time I have to pull out the can opener I'm annoyed. And I'm not just annoyed about that moment, but I'm annoyed that I ever had to use a can opener.

I think people are willing to pay more for convenience, just how much more is the question. And when I say convenience, I really mean a better overall user experience. Then I also think there is a point where consumers see the light and just demand more convenience or better ease of use.

It may look nice but transparent containers cause the product to lose vitamin content.
This applies to milk, orange juice, etc. as well.
